IMAX 70mm Film is one of the rarest and most impressive film formats in the world. Unlike digital projection, the film is shown using actual film stock. Every image physically exists on film, frame by frame. Light passes through the film strip and projects the image onto the gigantic IMAX screen.

IMAX 70mm Film uses a much larger film frame than conventional 35mm film or standard 70mm film. With IMAX, the film runs horizontally through the projector. This means each frame is larger, allowing much more detail to be captured and projected. At Kinepolis Brussels, IMAX 70mm Film can be shown in IMAX’s exclusive 1.43:1 Expanded Aspect Ratio. This means the image can fill the screen from top to bottom. You see more image. More height. More scale. More of the world the filmmaker has created for you.

A CINEMA BUILT FOR GRANDEUR

The IMAX auditorium at Kinepolis Brussels is unique. It features a gigantic 532 m² screen and seats 400 guests. The auditorium is designed to bring out the very best in both picture and sound. To accommodate IMAX 70mm Film, the projection room underwent technical modifications. The new IMAX 70mm film projector weighs more than 1,500 kilograms and sits alongside the existing IMAX with Laser projection system. This makes Kinepolis Brussels one of the few locations in the world where both IMAX with Laser and IMAX 70mm Film are available.
